Qualities of a good Software QA engineer:

Here, is a list of qualities of a good Software Test Engineer: Has “test to break” attitude An ability to take the point of view of the customer A strong desire for quality Should be tactful & diplomatic and should be able to maintaining a cooperative relationship with developers – people skills. An ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical people is useful. An understanding of software development process is helpful. Without knowing development, they will not be able to understand the kinds of bugs that come into application and the likeliest place to find them. The tester who doesn't know programming will always be restricted to the use of ad-hoc techniques and the most simplistic tools. There's never enough time to test "completely", so all software testing is a compromise between available resources and thoroughness. The tester must optimize scarce resources and that means focusing on where the bugs are likely to be. If you don...

Career options for Software Test Professionals

Of late, testing is looked after as a good professional career for many of the aspiring youths. As mentioned above, from being test engineer one can move to senior test engineer, test lead to test manager; else can become QA lead, QA Manager. The options available in the testing tools side are enormous. There are numbers of functional, performance, security testing tools besides test management tools like Quality Center from HP, CQTM from IBM etc., The demand for niche skills like SOA testers, Security testers are on the increase. There is dearth of skills in test automation areas – scripting skills in the tools languages like VB, Java and other scripting languages like Perl, Shell, Python etc., Technical resources with capabilities to evaluate automation tools, create automation framework and reusable components are on demand. Always there is demand for good performance testers who can analyze the performance test results, identify the bottlenecks and suggest tuning techniques. ...

what should be done after-btech:mba or mtech

B.Tech is a bachelor level course in Technology. Thus, one cannot take it as the last and final qualification degree, especially in the present time when the market is full of competition all around. In the present era, there are more applicants than the number of job available, and hence it is very essential for everyone to be specialized in their respective field. As far as B.Tech degree course is concerned, it does provide specialization, but not of that higher level as provided by MBA or M.Tech. Thus, it is some sort of invisible compulsion that one needs to do MBA or M.Tech in order to progress more in one’s field. But the question arises, that what should be done MBA or M.Tech? This decision completely depends on the person and his or her personal interest. Both the course provides ample specialization, but both provide specialization in separate sectors. If one is more interested in engineering line and want to work in their trade line and want to ma...

Why to do M.Tech?

Do I really need to do M.Tech? or just start early and find a job? Spend some time after the degree, learn some professional course and start looking for a job. What shall I do? Everything is dark and I don’t know how the future will be. I want to do something good and help others but I don’t know how. These are few common questions that almost every final year engineering student has in mind. I had similar questions when I was in B.Tech’s final year, and I had friends who made different decisions at that time. Few prepared GRE and TOFEL and went to US and few took computer courses and joined software industry, few went to government jobs and few like me moved for M.Tech. First let me share my reasons of doing M.Tech. I always thought of doing a highly respected, high paid job and a job where I have more control to do things that I like. Unfortunately, I found myself not competent enough to compete with top students for finding a job in Microsoft or Google. On the oth...

What is Valid GATE Score?

Valid GATE score the term is little confusing for students as everyone got a GATE score and think its valid that is why they have score. There are two things associated with it. One is valid time period and qualifying marks. Both the conditions should be satisfied to apply for admission to that institution. GATE score are usually valid for two years, for example if you give GATE in 2010 and your marks are above qualifying marks, you are eligible to apply in 2011 for Master of Engineering admissions. But in 2012 your score is considered as invalid. The next condition is about qualifying marks. Mere getting score does not show that its valid GATE score. Your score is only valid when it is above or equal to the score of qualifying marks. For example, if you have 16 marks and the qualifying marks for that year are mentioned as 25, then your GATE score is not valid. Another question may rise, for this year I got 16 marks and qualifying score was 25, if next year qualify...
